"Worst airline"

Review

Here is the timeline of what our departure from Punta Cana was supposed to look like:
9:45CTZ- shuttle picks us up from hotel
10:30 - arrive at Punta Cana airport
12:00 - board Xtra Airways flight 301
1:00 - take off from Punta Cana
4:35EST - arrive in Baltimore

There was plenty of room for delays and change. However, Xtra Airways still managed to put us 7+ hours behind with no formal explanation.

Here's how the timeline actually worked:
9:45CTZ - shuttle picks us up from hotel
10:30 - arrive at Punta Cana airport (at this point we were informed the flight was delayed by 1 hour from my father in law, not from anyone on Apple Vacation or Xtra Airways)
12:00 - sitting at Gate 15, was informed by other passengers that the flight was delayed by another hour
12:30 - the screen at Gate 15 changes for a Southwest flight to Baltimore (man I wish we had just taken that flight). Now there is lots of confusion, some people are told to check Gates 1-8 for our flight, others are told it could be moved to Gate 11.
1:00 - we all sit at gate 11 because no one found anything at Gates 1-8 and no airline workers "knew what was going on". We watched the flight to Chicago board and still had no answers.
3:45 - we're still sitting at Gate 11 with no answers, no one knows what is going on, however we were informed by other passengers that they thought they saw a Xtra Airways plane on the tarmac around 3:15. Its around this time, another passenger informs us she was told there were issues with the bathroom on the plane. All we knew at this point was that we could be waiting four more hours because either the toilet broke, or the technician hurt his hand.
4:35 - were told the technician had to go to the hospital so we had to wait for him to come back from the hospital, or wait for them to fly another technician in from Miami, or we had to wait until tomorrow. At this point we all start looking for other flights because we have no idea how we are leaving this airport. Every flight is full, and airline workers still claim they have no idea what is going on. I found security back out at immigration who told me he didn't recommend me getting another flight because the airline employees know what is going on "and if they say they don't, they are liars".
4:55 - a passenger found another security officer who said the technician cut off his finger, had to go to the hospital to get it sewn back on, and they waiting for technician to get back to plane because the plane can't leave without this technician. At this point we had already requested to speak with a supervisor who eventually came to try to give us answers. She said she would give us food vouchers for dinner because none of us had eaten anything since breakfast at this point because we thought we would board the plane at any second.
5:23- no food vouchers, but we finally boarded the plane for flight 301 to Baltimore. It is at this point we found out we had to go to Miami because the crew had timed-out and they would need to switch crews. We have no wifi now because we are on the tarmac so there is no way for us to inform my in laws (who have been waiting in Baltimore for 2 hours already because we should have been home at this point).
7:35EST - landed in Miami. Somehow, our in laws called all the airlines to figure out what is going on and we're informed we should be at BWI by 9:45.
9:00 - one hour and a half later, we are still on the same plane waiting for take off. We finally took off from Miami.
11:31 - landed in BWI with 1 extra stop, a 1.5 hour layover, no food, and 7 hours from the scheduled time.

At this time I am requesting full reimbursement for multiple reasons including lack of information, and severe inconvenience not only for the passengers, but for those who were meeting us in Baltimore as well. After three hours, by law, you must provide compensation. After seven hours, I demand full compensation. Also, I do not want a voucher for any other flight because I will never fly Xtra Airways again. I plan to take this information to all websites that provide reviews, as well as any potential sources that will spread this information.

"Xtra airways Cleveland to Punta Cana"

I don't usually write reviews but I feel compelled to because I was petrified of flying with this airline. Our travel agent booked us through apple vacations, and after we had paid, I googled xtra airways and was horrified at what I read. So much so, I debated using our travel insurance to cancel and rebook so we could change our flight option. I read that there were mechanical issues, horrible staff and flight attendants, multi-hour delays, unexpected stops in Miami, etc. Thankfully, none of these things held true for our flight and I worried all for nothing. The plane was nothing special but also nothing to really complain about, most of the staff and flight attendants were friendly, we were pretty close to on-time, and we did not make an unanticipated stops in Miami. I just wanted to share my positive experience, because when I was reading reviews, all I found was negative, and I feel that people are more inclined to write a review to complain rather than to praise. I'm not necessarily praising, as this was just an average flight and nothing happened that thrilled me over the top, but we made it safe, sound, fairly on time, with no hiccups and a friendly crew both ways, and that's a successful flight for me.

"Delay Delay Delay!!!"

We were on a 4 day Junket from Sanford Fl to Atlantic City NJ (2hour 10 min flight)
to leave at 11:20am. Night before recieved delay notice flight delayed to 1:40pm. We are to arrive 2 hours early and live about 1 1/2 hours away. Arrive at airport around 11am to find delayed again till 4:22, and delay after delay. We finally boarded the plane at 6:05pm. only to sit on plane for another 40 min for paper work?? 1 day gone With delay the first time should have arrived at 4pm. we arrived at8:59. Worst trip ever. Crew was nice but no reason why. We were told several stories. When contacting my host, they were not informed of any delays except the first one. Had a good Thursday and Friday but had to be back to airport on Saturday afternoon and it was the same thing again. We were to leave at 5:40pm. Had to take shuttle to airport at 3:30. Host was on bus and stated Aircraft was on time and no DELAYS!!! By the time we arrived at airport (about 15-20 min) plane was delayed till 6:05 and it just got worse from there. No reason as to why till we cornered ticket counter person who said plane did not leave Canada until 4:50 and it was at least a 2 1/2 hour flight. The airport in Atlanntic City is closed at 6:45. We were give a $15. food voucher at 6:50 and the grab and go in the airport stayed open till we used it. We (2 of us) got 2 sandwiches and 3 drinks and it was $31.19. Not the airlines fault, just saying. We finally got on the plane around 7:40 arrivinig back to Sanford at 10:00pm. Airlines was horrible and can not be on time. Attendents at airport said this happens all the time. They are never on time and never have crew till last minute. This was not a free junket, Could have spent same money for regular flight and been comped the rooms. First and last time with this airlines.

"One of our best flights!"

My husband and I have never before written an airline review, and are doing so because we were quite hesitant to book this flight considering some of the negative reviews that were posted. We flew Perks Plus, seated at the front of the plane.

Our flight from O'Hare to Liberia on June 17th was one of the best we have ever taken. We have flown at least 3 times a year for the past 20 years.

Our flight left fairly close to its scheduled departure. Tiesha and Reena, our outbound crew attendants, were extremely pleasant, attentive and helpful. They offered us drinks several times, passed out pretzels, and even gave us earbuds so we could listen to the movies (fairly recent releases). They were by far two of the finest airline attendants we have ever encountered.

Our return flight, although a little late in departing, ran as smoothly as the outbound flight. Our crew attendants were pleasant enough, but did not show the enthusiasm for dealing with passengers that Tiesha and Reena did on our way down. Great job! ..thanks to you our 5 1/2 hour flight to Costa Rica felt like half the time. Great way to start a vacation

"KUDOS TO THE ENTIRE STAFF ON FLIGHTS 230/231!!!"

We flew from St. Louis to Puerto Vallarta May 30-June 6, 2016. Both trips were great. The 737 was newer and in great shape. Our seats were comfortable, but did not tilt back.

A special thanks to Sophia, one of the crew! She was extremely helpful and entertaining!

Appreciate the direct flight from St. Louis to Puerto Vallarta. Wish they did the direct flight all year long and more times than once a week.

Again, thanks to the entire staff, but especially Sophia for her great customer service!

"horrible horrible airline"

The flights were by far the worst part of our trip! We arrived at BWI at 4am as they said to get there 3 hours early (our flight was supposed to leave at 7)... It was the ONLY flight that morning for international travel, so there should've been no problems, HA! after waiting almost an hour past the scheduled departure time, the plane shows up and they have to stock the food/snacks. We finally leave 2 hours AFTER our scheduled time. We spend a wonderful week in Punta Cana then head to the airport (again 3 hours early b/c that's when the shuttle takes you) and there we sit an wait. This time, for about an hour and 45 minutes in an airport with NO AC. They finally put us on a bus (again, no AC) and make us sit there for about 20 minutes, drive us over to the plane and the crew is not allowing us to board. We're standing outside of the plane (watching the guys throw our luggage around) for about 15-20 minutes and they finally let us board. No, sorry for the delay, nothing. They offer 1 complimentary alcohol beverage, sweet a luke warm beer!! I asked if they had a snack box and was very rudely told no. I ordered a coffee that took 20 minutes for her to bring and she forgot the cream and sugar.... yeah she never came back with it. We finally land at BWI and a passenger fell ill on the plane. Instead of getting her off the plane or having her stay seated and allowing everyone else to get off, we all had to sit and wait on the plane for about 30 minutes. What should've taken 3 hours and 45 minutes, turned into a 10 hour day in an airport and plane.... Horrible horrible service.

"Awful Airline !!!! "

We were lied to from beginning to end. We were on the same flight as the reviewer wrote before me. Chicago to Liberia, Costa Rica. Everything he said is true. It was the worst experience of flying in all my years of traveling. To sum it up Lies, delays more lies and more delays. Paid for a 5 hour direct flight that turned into a refueling in Houston and 9 hours stuck in an airplane. We were seated at the tail end and served only once with a drink and had to pay $7 for a small snack box. Departure was not much better. Very disappointed with Apple Vacations!!!!!! Do your homework before hiring a charter that ruins your customers vacations! We lost 2 days because of your lack of customer care and professionalism. Not sure if I would trust Apple again to book another trip!

"Liars and rude, useless cabin crew"

We flew From Chicago to Liberia, Costa Rica on Friday March 11th. We were suppose to depart at 6:00 am At 11:00 pm the night before we got a call from Xtra stating our flight was moved to an 8:00 am departure. Well at this time it was a little late to change our plans as we had a car reserved to pick us up at 3:00 am the morning of departure.

So we end up at the airport now 2 hours earlier, check in only to be told our ADVERTISED,DIRECT, NON-STOP...again NON-STOP flight was indeed going to have to stop in Houston for fuel! ARE YOU KIDDING ME! The line we were given was they didn't anticipate the extra weight so we couldn't take all the fuel for a non-stop. Seriously, you expect me to believe this?? This is not your first trip Xtra!( I also found out that the trip down from ORD to LIR on 03.18.16 ALSO had to stop for fuel.

I think A call to the FAA is in order. If they cant get the weight/balance and fuel right, somebody is totally incompetent and deserves to lose a job.....or ground the airline and revoke their 121 Certificate.

We landed in Houston and went to a place reserved for private aircraft and fueled there. We were not allowed off the airplane. So 1.5 hours later we were on our way again.

The weather prior to Houston was terrible. Turbulence was so bad we had to stay in our seats. Food service but no beverage service to wash it down. But even when it was okay we were told to sit down and stay out of the aisle. I don't know about you but if I have to go to the bathroom...all bets are off. And MANY people had to use the bathrooms...The 2 WORST flight attendants in history !! There was a third older flight attendant but never really saw her. The two younger ones were aweful. I've been on flights when the beverage cart couldn't go out they at least hand walked water to everyone.

So after all that our 11:10a arrival turned into a 4:45p arrival.

To add insult to injury on the day we left, March 18th, our original flight to depart LIR at 11:10a turned into a 12:45 departure which turned into an actual departure of 2:30 . With absolutely no explanation or reason given.

Like I said, I see a letter to the FAA and OIG in Xtra Airways future

"Great flight experience"

Booked trip with Apple Vacations for departure from Cleveland on March 7, returning from Punta Cana March 10. We had a great flight, no issues, would have no hesitation flying with Xtra again. Crew was outstanding as well as airport check in.
