SIN Changi AirportSingapore
"Best airport for a long (or short) stop-over."
Just back in UK from Brisbane via Singapore (20 hrs stop), Sri Lanka (1 hr stop) and Dubai (2 hrs stop).
Have just written a long whinge about Dubai Airport otherwise known as the "Expensive Luxury Goods Shopping Mall". By contrast Singapore was GREAT!!!
With such a long journey ahead of me, I booked myself into the T1 Ambassador Transit Hotel in Singapore. However I don't know if I needed to book as much time in the hotel which is really bedrooms and bathrooms only. There are so many free or cheap things to do in Singapore a/p. I kept going out of the hotel to eat downstairs, watched a free movie, went on the free 2 hr. City Bus Tour courtesy I think of Singapore Airlines which was very pleasant and passed the time. Took loads of photos in the a/p interior gardens which are immaculate and stunning. Orchids everywhere. Used the super-efficient Skytrain to the other terminals to see what they offered . Time passed very comfortably and quietly, a big bonus for long haul travelers over 60!
Having said that, the quiet, spotless, modern transit hotel room with en-suite bathroom was a haven. A long hot bath, some lounging on the bed watching decent tv, some light snoozing were all very welcome. Check-in was quick, staff courteous and efficient. Recommended.
"Changi Airport Singapore"
I had quite a few hours to kill in Singapore's Changi Airport, and there's so much to do and see. Shopping is fantastic, the food outlets were great. I was there after midnight waiting for a flight and everything remained open. Security and staff were also very helpful.
Singapore Airport is simply amazing! I have spent much time at this airport in the past, on the way to Europe from Australia. Normally have about 8 hours there, but last time on returning had 11 hours due to an airline delay. But time almost went too quickly. We didn't have enough time to do everything. We arrived at 15:00 and left at 02:00 next morning. Unfortunately we just missed out on the free city tour, which leaves at 15:00. However, we did catch a free movie screening, many free foot massages, the Butterfly Garden, the Cactus Garden, the Koi pond, etc. Even free internet. Not only is everything free, but they also give lots away. On the outbound leg, my younger brother received a $5.00 gift voucher from the lady at the Immigration Checkpoint because she saw in his passport that it was his Birthday the following week. They also gave us a free bag when we spent $50.00 on dinner. Every time I have been here there has been some type of promotion like this. Everything is soooo clean and orderly. Love this airport!
This airport is just brilliant! We actually arrived 5 hours early just to make the most of it.
They have a free cinema room screening films, these great foot massage machines which, Xbox 360 Kinect to play, a butterfly garden, loads of internet terminals and best of all, it's all free including the internet!! How good is that!!
I used Changi Airport several times in the past few years. And each time it was a really good experience. Always very clean and pleasant, the airport is huge and spacious but you find directions very easily and if you get lost you have friendly and efficient staff that can help you.
Always a pleasure to fly in or out of Changi.
