"Food was excellent and "foot net" was very helpful in economy"

Review

This was my first long flight and I was dreading being on a plane for 15 hours. I took the flight from LAX that left at 11:55 pm. I was a bit shocked at the leg room. I just assumed these longer flights would have more space than the standard planes we have just flying from state to state in the US. I was wrong. I'm only 5 ft. tall and 115 pounds but could hardly move my feet. I did put my bag under the seat in front of me so that limits space but there is no way you can easily get out and get to your bag if you need it from a window or middle seat. Most of the passengers are asleep on this flight so you would have to wake someone up to get your bag or pee. TIP #1 - Drink very little :) Drink a lot before you get on the flight and pee before you start your travels to keep yourself from being dehydrated but you're either going to be thirsty or have to wake people up to pee. If this is an issue for you, I would select an aisle seat. It's very hard to get out on a long flight because people have headphones and pillows and blankets and under seat luggage and the wait is long at the bathroom. TIP #2 - You will not be able to lean very far forward to get stuff out of your bag in front of you so pick a bag that you can easily zip and unzip without looking and put the absolute minimum in it. TIP #3 - Your TV can move a little and you need to memorize where the buttons are before they turn off the lights. When the person in front of you reclines you will not be able to see your TV that is on the seat in front of you but it does move. I didn't realize this until the trip was almost over. Also, they turn off the lights on this nighttime flight and it's pretty dark. Turning on your light is extremely distracting to the people around you so you need to just memorize where the buttons are on the tv so when you wake up you can use it. When the person on the aisle turned on her light it was right on the face of the middle person's seat who was asleep and they instantly woke up. It's very hard to get to sleep on these long flights so if you can help it don't wake people up. They have these little foot nets in economy that I thought were very funny at first but they were amazing for feeling more like you were reclining. My husband is 6 ft tall and they worked for both of us. I recommend using these to get your feet in another position while sleeping. The entertainment on the tv was awesome. There were probably more than 20 movies to select and some tv programs also. The food was very good also. They served us a dinner when we got on and then a breakfast in the morning. It was a lot of food and it was very tasty.

"Shoddy Qantas"

Review

Flight staff at Qantas are great, it is customer service land based which are the most incompetent I have ever had the misfortune to deal with.
After calling and being told I would get a call back within the hour I waited for 3 days I called Qantas customer and had to wait another day to speak to anyone.
They could not help my query and did not want to help in any way.
My query was that my hands started getting itchy and sore 20 minutes after embarking on one of their aircraft , I was trying to find out what chemicals may have been used on their planes.
Within two weeks of arriving home my skin and fingernails had started to peel off.
This is only a summary of what happened
Qantas never ever again

"Pay extra $25 for seat allocation."

Review

Our Qantas flights to and from Honolulu were more than satisfactory, and the customer service from cabin crew was excellent, however, I was un-aware, that if you prefer to get an allocated seat prior to 24 hours to check-in, Qantas requires a payment of $25 per person per sector, ( free with-in the 24 hours )
Checking the flight seating on-line, aprox: 3 days before our flight, I noticed that 90% of the seats
displayed as " occupied " and since my partner and I would prefer to be seated together, we paid the extra for 2 seats together, on our return flight, we checked-in, with-in the 24 hour period and found that almost 97% were displaying as occupied, ( 4 seats vacant ) but at the HNL airport check-in we were able to get the seats we requested.
This leaves me with the feeling that Qantas blocks out the seats, in order to get people to pay the additional fee, in the fear of being seated separately, I certainly hope I am wrong.

"Getting a bit vanilla"

Review

Unfortunately our flight was re-timed and we had to overnight in Sydney. I'm unsure why but QF put us on a flight the day before but not on a QF flight with a business cabin as paid for with FF miles which leaves around lunch time but a Jetstar codeshare that left early in the morning. On the upside they provided hotel in Sydney which was very good unlike the bus transfer to get there which left us standing in the rain by the curbside for an hour.

Check in was easy and express security cards given for immigration at all airports. Qantas first lounge still one of the best in the world.
The QF flights to and from BKK were on an A330-300 which was fairly clean. Unfortunately they are still using the angled lie-flat seats with the temperamental AVOD which has plenty of choice and average screen quality. Food good and bags quick to come on and off. The inflight staff were good and chatty and the "turn down" service where they make your bed up for you certainly helps with those hard seats.

But you can't help but feel that there is something missing and I think its in the QF product itself, it seems to have lost its identity. There was nothing wrong with the flights at all, staff were efficient and on our return trip had some real pizzaz which is nice but the hard product is just so vanilla. The new uniforms when they come will help but the seats and colour schemes in the business cabin are just so toned down that it really drains any vibrance out of the overall product.

"MEL to LAX A380 Cramped Economy"

Review

After all the hype generated by Qantas over the new A380, we were expecting great things, however, I would be extremely happy if I never flew long distance on a Qantas A380 again. We are regular travellers on Qantas domestic, and we find the use of older crew very refreshing, and they are always very happy to help, and the food is always very nice as far as airline food goes. The complete reverse could be applied to Qantas international. The staff on the A380 always seemed to act like they were flat out, but never actually seemed to be doing much at all, and took forever to answer any call. We have twins and they lost one of the crap kids meals (soggy chicken nuggets went out in the 80s) so one had a crap meal and one had a Adults meals which led to arguments, all brushed off very well by the staff. Seating? We have travelled international by many other airlines, as Qantas stopped flying to many of our favourite destinations, (and we refuse to fly international via Jetstar, as it was the worst we have ever experiences) and they were all so much better than the A380. It is a shame, because we really wanted to brag about our flight on the A380, and we actually hated it. Sent off an email to Qantas, but reply yet!! Alan Joyce needs to join the real world!!

"A380 - the best Qantas experience "

Review

Having flown Qantas for many years, so I thought I knew what to expect but was pleasantly surprised with my first experience of this great A380. Apart from the lovely newness of it, economy was really very comfortable. The netting as a footrest helped there, the entertainment the best. Apart from that too, the plane seemed quieter, the take off and landing seemed smoother and the food was really nice. Even the attendants seemed to do a better job than my experiences on 747's or domestic. Would never hesitate to use Qantas again when flying in an A380, it was pretty near as good as it can get while flying economy.

"Qantas has gone down the toilet!"

Review

I have lived in Australia my entire life and use to love flying Qantas - years ago it was a wonderful, world class airline. In the last fifteen years it has gone from excellent to absolutely appalling. Qantas use to pride itself on its safety - but we all know that whatever they may say, they've recently had serious incident after serious incident. It really is profits before people.

On a recent flight from Sydney to Melbourne - "dinner" consisted of 1 napkin and a greasy, disgusting "pie" in a plastic bag - it was truly revolting. I would be so embarrassed servicing that slop to a customer. As for the seats - they are seriously uncomfortable to the point where you actually talk to the people next to you and say things like "these seats are just dreadful." No leg room, terrible pitch - very very uncomfortable! Whoever this seat"designer" is Qantas keeps going on about should have been sacked.

The seats are actually borderline ridiculous. If they were even 1mm smaller, they would be completely non-functional.

I won't be flying Qantas again - save your money people - with all the choice out there, fly an airline who actually cares about its paying customers!

"Customer Service"

Review

I am so sorry to say that, overall service of Qantas Air was absolutely unsatisfactory. I had been traveling from Auckland to Dallas and return with my two kids (1) I have requested for an onward travel Special Assistance/1904008891. This was approved but no help provided at all (2) Although booking is made in Qantas, they use alliance flights for various legs. Eg- Jet alliance from Auckland to Brisbane, American airlines from Los Angeles to Dallas, American airlines from Los Angeles to Melbourne and Jetstar from Melbourne to Auckland. Altogether only one leg was actual Qantas flight. This means, Qantas do not take any responsibility of the services for the journey offered in the alliance aircrafts, but charge for everything. I realized this only when I was asked to board in the ever popular public transport type operating agency Jetstar. (3) Not only Jetstars cabin environment wasn’t comfortable enough, but also NO MEALS provided throughout the journey. After long hours of tiring journey from Dallas to Melbourne, without food and water from Melbourne to Auckland made us completely dehydrated. (4) In this tired condition, further I had to anxiously look out for my luggage for over two hours at Auckland. After this long hours of frustration, finally I had to go and enquire at luggage services to check the whereabouts of my luggage. That is the only time I realized that my luggage did not come in the same aircraft. All these time, my other family members were waiting outside with frustration to receive us. (5) Since all our dress and other essential things were in it, neither my kids could go to school nor could I go to work for next few days. (6) After 3 days of waiting and many phone calls, one baggage was delivered and the 4th day other lots. Items from one large bag came in a transparent plastic sack. So many precious items were damaged. I came to know later that few luggage were held at Los Angeles and one at Melbourne. (7) There were so many enquiries made to Qants by phone/emails/facebook post etc, but never ever I have received a response. I have no hesitation to say that it’s was an absolute horrible experience throughout. I wish it should never happen to anyone else. Booking reference 5LFWIT

"Great trip on refitted 747"

Review

Qantas now operates completely refitted 747's on this route, with A 380 interiors. In business class, this means Skybed Mark 2 which is a vast improvement - 6 ft 5 in totaly flat bed with enhanced privacy. I was not a fan of the Skybed Mark 1 (inclined) but this new one is excellent and vastly superior to the all-too-clever but narrow herringbone arrangemens on many airlines (Cathay, Virgin Atlantic, Air NZ). Front section of Business (old First class cabin) is exceptional as is upper deck. Service very good as was the choices and the new in flight entertainment system excellent (blows away offerings of most airlines, BA esoecially). Between Australia and Latin America you can elect Aerolineas Argentinas, LAN or Qantas - only Qantas does a 747 and their service is vastly superior to the other two (Aerolineas especially!!!!!!!).
