"London's best airport with a better future!"

Review

London Stansted Airport is a fantastic airport but has one major problem. It is owned and managed by BAA, who also own Heathrow and due to this, is damaging this airports reputation and appeal to airlines so unfortunately gives us as consumers less choice. It's passenger numbers have declined by 30% since 2007 so London's best airport will have a better future once this airport operator has finally had to let go of the UK's fourth largest airport.

That's the only negative point of this airport and has little to do with the actual experience of passing through the airport. The terminal building has a very easy layout and is easy to navigate around and is very modern, clean and spacious in addition, all of which is vital for a stress free journey. Areas are sign posted very clearly and check-in/bag-drop desks organised into several zones as well as being numbered in order to make it easier to find the correct desks quickly and easily. It can depend on the airline, but usually check-in/bag-drop takes 15 or 20 minutes in the worst case but is usually much faster than that.

Security seems to be alot stricter than at other UK airports in the sense that you are very likely to be asked to remove shoes and other items. The general allowances such as 100ml of liquid maxiumum per item is obviously the same as all other airports. It's probably because its a London airport and is owned by BAA who seem to be more strict when it comes to security searches. The queueng times are very swift, even at busy times, the whole process never exceeds 15 or 20 minutes and can be quicker if you are not stopped and is a quieter time, sometimes only 5 minutes. Security staff are also fantastic being very polite and helpful in any occurances such as bag searches. At busy times, airport staff also monitor queues, guiding passengers to quieter areas in order to minimise queuing times.

Through the entire airport is a wide range of shops, food outlets, restaurants plus many other facilities, especially in the departure lounge. The service provided in these facilities is close to perfect with great staff and customer service in most if not all. Whether you be wanting to eat, drink or shop before or after security, or after arrival, there is no shortage of these options, even if you're just visiting the airport or picking or dropping somebody off. Toilets, Currency exchange and many other facilities are present at a high volume throughout the entire airport. Even Live flight information screens are great, being very precise, giving clear information and are ideally located where they can be seen without needing to keep moving about.

Passport control is yet again another factor which makes this airport so great to use. It's very unlikely to be queuing for any more than 15 minutes and is usually only 5 or 10 minutes but any disruption and long queues that do occur at this airport do tend to be here albeit are very rare. Queuing for a little longer than expected isn't so much of a problem here as there isn't the stress of rushing around like when stuck in long queues when departing and worrying about getting to the gate.

Baggage reclaim is also very quick if you have hold baggage and never requires a wait of any more than a few minutes after passing passport control and is occasionally already there waiting for you when you get there. The reclaim belts are different to those at most airports and much better. Rather than coming through door flaps in the wall where bags keep going inside and outside until they're reclaimed, the belts are a loop enirely inside the terminal building and the baggage is delivered from a ramp in the centre of it, so bags never go outside again once delivered which is hugely appreciated when its a raining as you don't receive a cold and damp bag like you often do in the rain in most airports.

Transport to and from the airport is also at a great standard with many different options available. The fastest way to London is on the clean and modern Stansted Express Train to London Liverpool Street which takes about 45 minutes, running every 15 minutes from the train station which is at the terminal building. Coaches also run regularly into Central London and don't exceed much more than 1 hour in duration. Taxis can also be found at a high frequency and can be organsied in the arrival hall, as can be a wide range of car hire companies and many other onward transport options. The airport is located close the Junction 8 of the M11, which allows road access into Central London in as little as 50 minutes, where Westiminster can be easily reached in less than 1 hour and Canary Wharf in as little as 40 minutes.

Overall, London Stansted is a fantastic airport which is certain to give you an enjoybale, pleasant stress free journey, wheather it being departing or arriving.

"Quick Airport shame about transfer prices"

Review

We landed at Stansted Airport on 28th Dec 2011 at after midnight. The airport was fairly quiet and so the time needed to get through the airport was quick and easy. No hold ups.

Our first disappointment was the fact that we could not get the train into Central London as services had stopped. We tried the bus but once again it was too late. We then looked into using the taxi franchise at Stansted. These guys are expensive! Checker Cars wanted over £100 to get to our hotel in W2 in London. We then resorted to using the internet to call a cab off site to see if we could get one cheaper and we did, with Stansted Taxi Service for £75! I'd recommend booking your taxi before you get to Stansted, much cheaper -

or call 01279 816901. I wish we had known that before we travelled on the 18th!
Thanks

"Not the best airport of the world but convenient"

Review

It's not the best airport of the world but it's a modern airport in which we can find our way very easily and has very good facilities; and that's what I require when I travel. I didn't waste much time queuing but as I was here between two fligths I didn't want to change money (british pounds). So, as I was hungry I asked if I could pay my lunch in Euro. Actually I could but they give me british pounds back. Except that, the couple of hours I spent in this airport was pleasant.
