"Best airport I have been to"

Review

One really nice thing that catches my attention is how architecturally different the terminals are from each other. All the way from the huge BA T%, to the small but well developed terminal 4. So many affordable shops and restaurants. and great areas for plane spotting. If you have long layover here and are borde, no need to venture out into London city. Just tour the airport itself.

Conclusion
Facilities: Excellent
Check-In Area: Excellent
Security Level: High

"Improved a lot"

Review

Travelled through T5, T4 and T2 in the last 6 months and honestly cannot find a serious fault with the airport. Yes it can get busy but we've never had a problem with any of the facilities from security, shops, toilets, seats, food, information, etc. It does seem fashionable to knock the airport but compared to many others it is very functional and offers a good service.

We've also recently been through Airports at Bangkok, Las Vegas, Paris, Cuba and a couple in the Middle East ( non description and forgettable) and the Heathrow experience was always stress free.

Conclusion
Facilities: Good
Check-In Area: Good
Security Level: High

"Heathrow security staff apparently enjoy harassing passengers "

Review

I travel quite a bit and, unfortunately, regularly through Heathrow. In my view security process and staff at this Airport are among the worst in the world. I've watched this at various occasions already and experienced it myself - passengers get 'picked' at random for a bag search. There is usually an excuse like 'we think there is a PC in your bag' or 'we think there are still liquids in your bag'. The staff then searches every tiny pocket and item in the bag - even in areas where not even the smalles PC or bottle would fit. They swipe each area with a small piece of fabrik that is obviously not a PC detector... The searches have other intentions of course and everyone knows it. I see it as harassment of passengers that needs to stop!

Conclusion
Facilities: Satisfactory
Check-In Area: Poor
Security Level: Low

"no luggage trolleys in Arrivals at Terminal 4. "

Review

Terminal 4 at London Heathrow on Saturday 26th October at about 7 p.m. in the evening was chaotically busy.
There were long and very slow moving queues for Passport control.
But much worse was to come, in the Baggage claim area –there were no luggage trolleys available at all!!
Numbers of arriving passengers had to lug their heavy cases out of the area as best they could...
Asking officials in the terminal for trolleys brought no credible assistance or reasons.
No trolleys were being supplied and nobody knew why or how long it would be before trolleys were available.
Like some other elderly travelers on their own, I had to lug my two heavy cases up to departures by putting one case on top of the other and managing my hand luggage as best I could.
Fortunately my cases have built in wheels but, it was a struggle.

However once in the departure area, which was also busy, it was quite another story.

There were lines of unused luggage trolleys- but no one it seemed, responsible for taking them down to arrivals.
A harassing and stressful experience to go through after a 12 hours nonstop from Mauritius.

A big black mark for LHR Terminal 4.

Conclusion
Facilities: Very Poor
Check-In Area: Poor
Security Level: High

"Heathrow is a sham!"

Review

I am promising myself to never again travel through this airport again. I have always hated this airport but I have chosen it this time because it was 50 euros cheaper for this journey than through Amsterdam. Never again!

Had to take 2 buses to transfer from T 1 to T 5, just to go through endless corridors, escalators for going up and down several times, que an extra time in addition to the usual security and immigration ques, only to be treated by security as if we were just cattle passing through. Had to take off my shoes and submit myself to a body search, which does not happen to me in any other airport, for them to find nothing.

Finally, to then be shouted at by one of the staff at security for not understanding his question, who then called security when i protested against being spoken to in a rude manner. Never again!

Conclusion
Facilities: Very Poor
Check-In Area: Very Poor
Security Level: Satisfactory

"A great first impression of the UK!"

Review

London Heathrow Airport is a great airport but ones experience does depend on which terminal is used. I have only used Terminals 3 and 5 before but both of them were very good indeed with only a few minor faults and generally gives a great first impression for those visiting the UK and is a great airport to have as the UK’s largest.

Terminal 3 and 5 are both layed out well and are easy to navigate around. Terminal 5 in particular is very modern, clean and spacious, all of which is vital for a stress free journey whilst Terminal 3 seems to be aging a bit apart from the departure lounge which seems to have been modernised. Areas are sign posted very clearly and check-in desks are easy to find quickly and easily. It can depend on the airline, but usually check-in/bag-drop takes 15 or 20 minutes at either terminal.

Security seems to be very strict with thorough searches although that's kind of expected considering this airport is the main one of London and the largest international airport in the world. The general allowances such as 100ml of liquid maximum per item is obviously the same as all other airports. The queuing times are fairly quick where the whole process takes also around 15 or 20 minutes at the most and can be quicker if you are not stopped, sometimes only around 10 minutes. Security staff are also great being very polite and helpful in any occurrences such as bag searches.

Through the entire airport is a wide range of shops, food outlets, restaurants plus many other facilities, especially in the departure lounge. The service provided in these facilities is fantastic with great staff and customer service in the vast majority. Whether you be wanting to eat, drink or shop before or after security, or after arrival, there is no shortage of these options, even if you're just visiting the airport or picking or dropping somebody off. Toilets, Currency exchange and many other facilities are present at a high volume throughout the entire airport. Even Live flight information screens are great, being very precise, giving clear information but do seem to be a few short of them with the need of repeatedly getting up and checking.

Passport control is this airports biggest problem, especially in Terminal 3. Queuing for more than 30 minutes can happen but is usually only 10 or 15 minutes but any disruption and long queues that do occur at this airport do tend to be here and recently have been up to a couple of hours, but is a very rare occurrence. Terminal 5 seems to be less prone to disruption and exceptionally busy queues for passport control, its usual queuing times are roughly the same as in Terminal 3.

Baggage reclaim is a little on the slow side if you have hold baggage though I only really use Heathrow for long-haul routes with larger aircraft than usual, so I would to wait a little longer for my bags. The reclaim belts are the usual type where bags go through the rubber flaps in the wall and keep going in and out until reclaimed, which can mean a long wait for it to get back round if you miss it, but really isn’t too much of a problem.

Transport to and from the airport is also at a great standard with many different options available. The fastest way to London is on the Heathrow Express Train to London Paddington Street which takes about 15 minutes and runs every 15 minutes from the airport. Coaches also run regularly into Central London and don't exceed much more than 40 minutes in duration. Taxis can also be found at a high frequency and can be organised in the arrival hall, as can be a wide range of car hire companies and many other onward transport options. The airport is located close junction 15 of the M25 and junction 4 of the M4, which allows road access into Central London in as little as 30 minutes.

Overall, London Heathrow is a great airport which is likely to give a very enjoyable and pleasant start or finish to your journey with its excellent facilities, the best thing about this airport with just a few things that need to be improved.

Conclusion
Facilities: Excellent
Check-In Area: Good
Security Level: High

"Purgatory"

Review

This is the worst major airport in the world. My watch set off the security alarm but the staff refused to listen to my request to put it separately through the xray machine, chosing instead to give me a body search. The female officer actually put her fingers into my lower body openings through my clothing. I felt shocked and violated and couldn't believe what had happened. On our return trip, our connecting flight was late and we were refused permission to board the Qantas flight even though it was still parked at the terminal. When we approached the Qantas ticket counter to ask what would happen next we were told "It's none of our concern. Go to British Airways, they are the ones who were late." We then lined up at the BA desk and got the same treatment. We were stunned to be treated like this when nothing had been our fault. Feeling that the situation was out of control I finally demanded to speak to their manager and he came and sorted things out but not before we were so rudely treated by all the staff there with both airlines who came across as total arrogant pigs. They were all British of course, even the Qantas staff. I will never take a flight again that goes anywhere near the place. Or, for that matter, fly with either Qantas or British Airways either.

Conclusion
Facilities: Very Poor
Check-In Area: Very Poor
Security Level: Low

"Giant airport that does its job."

Review

Heathrow is huge, and literally has flights coming/going every minute. Allow sufficient time to find your terminal/gate and there is often additional extra security at the gate. Excellent shopping! It's like no other airport. Heathrow has luxury stores like Burberry and Gucci as well as other stores. Heathrow has on-going construction as they slowly close older terminals and open new ones. Easy link to central London on the train if you don't have/want to rent a car. Overall, Heathrow is doing a good job for being the busiest airport in Europe.

Conclusion
Facilities: Excellent
Check-In Area: Excellent
Security Level: High
