"Something not quite OK with This Airport"

Review

This Airport is large but seems to have been opened and then built onto and extended in stages.
I arrived from Mauritius to transfer to a South African Airways flight to Entebbe on 7th April 2014.
I had a couple of hours to effect the transit.
My boarding card and my ticket informed me that my connecting flight departed from Terminal B.
But I could not find a terminal B.
I followed the signs ‘International Transit’ – through long and nondescript corridors looking for signs to Terminal B. There were none. I made enquiries and was told that the Entebbe Flight was to depart from Gate A 5. I wondered how Gate A5 could be in terminal B.-if I could find it.
After long walks I found gate A 5.
It was unmanned even at only I hour from boarding,
There was no information appearing on the few gate monitors I could find, so I enquired of airport personnel and was told to go to Gate A7. This was quite far and this gate was loading another flight.
I retraced my steps and addressed staff at the main enquiry desk and was told to wait as they had no information on the Entebbe flight gate at that point.

Then to some relief found someone also going on the Entebbe flight and also did not know where to go.
Eventually we did go from gate A5.
I still do not know where Terminal B is and I guess that the information on tickets and boarding cards is a mistake that has not been corrected.
I was warned (by reading a self confession article in the SAA Onboard Mag) that the Airport in Johannesburg is unsafe and that baggage gets pilfered.
I had no trouble with this, but I noticed some rather unruly and noisy behavior by some local Airport employees and sales people.

Conclusion
Facilities: Good
Check-In Area: Satisfactory
Security Level: Satisfactory

"JNB - one of the worlds worst airport"

Review

We arrived here ex KL and found it to be the most dysfunctional and run down airport anywhere. We felt extremely unsafe in this place and for four hours transit we guarded all of possessions closely, notwithstanding this some items were stolen from luggage after it was checked in for our flight to Livingstone. The counter staff were very offhand and disinterested in anything asked of them particulary at the BA checking counter.
It is strongly advised to ensure that one plastic wrap all of there luggage before leaving Australiaas your luggage is a risk in this airport. Be warned
We were very glad to see the back of this airport!

Conclusion
Facilities: Very Poor
Check-In Area: Poor
Security Level: Low
