"Great twilight shot "
Great twilight shot and arwtrok of the Lazzara yacht with the Burj Dubai in teh background. Could be the symmetry and the sail-like outline of the Burj, but the boat seems to appear very much at home in these waters.
"I flew with Emirates"
I flew with Emirates less than two weeks ago on a mid-range flight and we did not rievece amenity kits. They did supply blankets and pillow and gave stuffed animals to the kids onboard. It may be different on the long haul flight you're flying though.
Looks like a very great place hen you first take a look at its gleaming architecture. But hen you go deep inside, not so much. Staff are so rude and unhelpful, not enough signs to lead yu around, bathrooms are small. Worst of all, there are hoards of shops, but prices are just ridiculously high. Place should feel more like an airport, rather than a luxury mall.
"2x bad experience, won't ever stop in Dubai Airport again!"
20 min bus transfers to terminal are very insufficient plus waiting in line for passport control is horrible. There are staff standing around doing nothing instead helping speeding up the long lines. My departure gate was change twice.
"Spend as little time in Dubai airport as possible!"
Just back to UK from Brisbane via Singapore (20 hours), Sri Lanka (1 hour) and Dubai (2 hours).
After spending a 20 hour stop-over in Singapore's airport, Dubai's airport looks and feels so BAD by contrast.
I've often traveled through Dubai and a few times through Singapore and knew to spend the longest stop-over in Singapore.
The thing that struck me this time was how badly designed Dubai a/p is in contrast to Singapore. Dubai is a very long narrow airport like an obstacle course between masses of shops and huge crowds of people. The normal airport things like flight information boards, toilets, drinking water taps (none found!) seem to be few and far between. Walking from one gate to another could take you a long time, dodging masses of dawdling shoppers!!! All they want is your MONEY! No free facilities I could find except toilets at the boarding gate. Had to cadge a drink of water from the hostess after getting on the plane as I was nearing dehydration. Had no Dubai currency and wasn't going to change UKP for that!
On former flights with unavoidably long Dubai stop-overs, I used to book myself into a lounge that Economy passengers could use. There you were away from the crowds and the noise (especially during the Haj), had some free snacks and drinks, free Internet access and comfy chairs you could nod off in. Well worth the boodle.
See my review of Singapore airport for more details as to how an airport should be designed and run.
"Dubai Airport: No thanks"
I have had four visits to Dubai Airport. The first two were in the Emirates business class lounge and there were very few seats and a 1 hour wait for the showers.
The last two vists were over new year and with no loung access. The queues to both the male and female toilets were unbelievable.
There is very limited seating unless you sit in a restaurant or restaurant area.
I use Hong Kong Airport six times per year and there is no comparison. It is a pleasure to go to HKG, but DXB is a nightmare. I cannot believe that people can be satisfied with DXB.
"what a crowded airport!"
When you arrive from a long-haul flight, you expect to queue at immigration but not so long. You also queue to go to the toilets which are very scarce! Maybe it was a peak time but an international airport of that size must handle that..
