OTP Otopeni International Airport

"Bucharest Otopeni OK but could do with some customer service improvements"
Bucharest Otopeni is about 10Km north of the city. Be careful as the other city airport Banesa, used by budget airlines is less than 5Km away. The terminal buildings are very modern but there are some aspects of customer service and simple signage which need to be improved. As a new arrival the exchange bureau is hidden away round a couple of corners. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES accept a taxi from any of the people offering taxis in the arrivals hall (unless you want an unplanned sightseeing trip of the city). Legal taxis are outside the main exit. Bucharest is the only city I know where a taxi pre booked from a hotel (in my case the Phoenica Grand)is actually cheaper than one from the taxi stand. There is currently (Sept 2011) a crazy situation if you are flying on a domestic flight. Check is NOT in the domestic terminal where the taxi drops you off but in the international terminal a short but annoying walk away. After checking in you have to return to the domestic terminal to go through security checks and to the gate. Check in for international flights can be something of a combined latin and eastern european experience. Once airside there are quite good facilities in the small but modern terminal. There are two business lounges.
