From Gatwick Airport (London) to Alicante Airport (Alicante)

Terrible Customer Experioence
I bought two seats at a reasonable price. When I checked in the 'Ryanair system' allocated two seats not together. There were lots of seats available for wife and I to sit together. The customer services just kept saying 'you have to pay to change your seat' and eventually admitted they were told the must not change seats free of charge, customers have to PAY. I'd rather Ryanair put an extra few pounds on the ticket price rather than give such a poor experience. Although T&Cs give some wishy washy reason it is just in place to make a few quid. I've always liked Ryanair but i'm going to find other ways of travelling rather than use this bunch. Just be up front Ryanair. Customers are not daft.

From Alicante Airport (Alicante) to Gatwick Airport (London)

Dreadful treatment
We had been informed late that Titan would replace our Easyjet flight. We had booked seating for an Airbus 319 but Titan fly Boeing 737 aircraft so the seating is different. No regard was given to those with booked seating and staff tried to insist that my 14 year old daughter sit by an emergency exit. I had to inform them that this was an offence as you have to be 16+ to be seated there. Due to the confusion on-board, we were delayed from flying. The air conditioning was on full blast throughout the flight which was noisy. The engine noise was loud. The staff appeared not to want to be there. I did not want to be there!

From Heathrow Airport (London) to Alicante Airport (Alicante) via Barajas Airport (Madrid)

Iberia – Just a tired and weary Airline, but still flyable
I was doing this from Mauritius –and it takes a bit of time. Choosing an airline operating to Alicante from the UK becomes quite bewildering as almost all Airlines that one can think of seem to go there and mostly several times a day from a wide variety of UK airports including almost all those with in a 50 mile radius of Central London except Heathrow.. A Google search shows you cheap fare merchants everywhere. I looked at them all –and saw that most of them offered about the same. BUT…If it was a flight only it seemed that the airlines own booking websites offered as good as , if not better deals, but not by much. No one flies non stop London Heathrow to Alicante. I was thankful for Lm.com (agency)for including in their ‘cheap flight’ offers, flights which used LHR via Madrid and thus avoid the cost and time that could be spent getting to Luton Gatwick, Stansted or Southend from where I stay in the UK at Staines-which is 10 minutes’ drive from Heathrow. I booked and paid and the fare on line. The service on Lm.com was very good.…. I tried to compare what they offered with the Airline offering. On Iberia it seems you can’t book flights out of London (London does not appear of their list of ‘from’ airports.) BA say they do not fly from LHR to Alicante – and do not advise you about any connections on Iberia their partner Airline So I took up the Lm.com offer. Later I tried to get a fare on BA to Madrid and Iberia Regional (Air Nostrum) separately – and it worked out more expensive than the Lm.com. offering, and by quite a lot of UKL’s, So I was comforted that I had (for once) made the right choice. Also by travelling on the so called ‘legacy’ carriers from LHR –one gets a bigger baggage allowance (if needed) but no complimentary flight snacks. Not on Iberia or Air Nostrum anyway.(for an advance seat selection BA & Iberia make you pay- Air Nostrum doesn’t). It was interesting to note that some of the documents I received by email specified that the flight LHR-Madrid was ‘operated by British Airways’. It wasn’t. It was operated by an Iberia Aircraft and crew. Surely there is a difference between stating who is operating the flight, and a code share arrangement. Something for the Trade Descriptions Act to ponder over. The LHR-MAD flight was in an Iberia A321-with a tired looking interior and no IFE or drop down screens. I asked if the items offered on the trolley were complimentary or for sale. Like Ryanair, everything except water was for sale only. However a very kind cabin crew member slipped me a cup of Tea. I was in the last seat row and was careful not to let anyone see what I had got. The Air Nostrum flight from Madrid to Alicante operated l hour behind schedule using an almost new and very smart, impressive and extremely quiet CRJ1000. The return 2 days later was a CRJ900 which was definitely not new- and then, Madrid LHR Terminal 5 by an equally tired looking Iberia A320. Note that on the CRJ’s 1000 & 900 – the seats are not aligned with the windows leaving quite a few rows of seats to view a blank fuselage wall. All flights were professionally and safely operated.
