It's sad really. JFK was once a crown jewel of airports in those glorious, jet-setting PanAm days. But decades of neglect and disrepair took their toll. The decision to allow each airline to develop its own terminal design has resulted in a Frankenstein-nightmare for the traveler's pre- and post-flight experience. Terminals 5 and 8 are the best in terms of accessibility, shops, food and services. But getting around all those terminals -- especially if you're rushed for your flight -- is still a royal pain.
