"Great flight on Insel Air to Miami"
On the 25 jan 2011 had a great flight from Curacao to Miami.
Read a lot of reviews but took the change because their tickets were lot cheaper than American Airlines. I must say we left 20 minutes early and got free food and drinks on board.
Ok the check in was'nt teh smoothest but I saw they had 3 other flight going at almost teh same time. They are quite big actually. I did not expect that.
I also read that they had blown tire that damaged their aircraft. Though it would affect my flight but did not notice anything of delay on the other flights either.
"The worst experience"
Hi People that intend to travel with Insel Air.. here is the reality.. this company doesn´t care with their customers!! Here is my story...
I and my wife was travelling this January by Curacao and Aruba. We planned this trip for 2 years, and at the end of this trip we would visit Caracas. When we were in Aruba, taking a flight back to Curacao and then a connection to Caracas , the Insel Air flight delayed a lot. It was remarked to 20:30. The original time was 18:30. We had a connection by Dutch Airlines to Caracas at 20:00. With this delay, moren then two hours, we would loose our connection in Curacao.. because of Insel Air´s delay.. When we were making the check in, we informed this to the attendant, asking for a solution, that could be a new flight in Curacao to Caracas or a one day stay in Curacao.. they told us that the responsibility of Insel Air is deliver people and that the company is not responsible for delays.. if you delay one our or ten hours it is the same.. and if the customer has another connections and financial losses you don´t care..
After this, we did the check in and we went to talk with Insel Air´s manager, in Aruba´s airport.. She was extremely unpolite.. she said that not could be done.. she didn´t gave us any option.. She said that the reponsibility of your company is about the flight and the delays are normals and she couldn´t do nothing.. When we arived to Curacao, I went to DAE (Dutch Airlines) to see if there would be another flight that night to Caracas.. the attendant said that they didn´t have and he came with me to Insel Air office and we discovered that Insel Air company had a flight to Caracas at 22:00.. we had to buy another ticket. It was the worst experience ever that we have in flighting.. In Aruba, you local manager never informed that there would be a flight of Insel Air at 22:00 to Caracas.. We travel around the world and we were never treated with lack of respect and consideration. This situation happened with other companies in other countries.. and the treatment was very different.
"Do not book on Insel without reading reviews"
If you are thinking of booking a flight on Insel Air, google Insel Air Reviews and read all the horror stories before you book.
"UNDEPENDABLE"
INSELAIR AIRLINES. Unfortunately this 5 year old reject airline is now listed with expedia.com . This airline serving the Caribbean out of the CURacao hub WAS a welcome idea for those of us living on these remote , forgotten , unwanted, or unknown Caribbean islands. Not the fact that they fly rejected Alitalia MD80s or whatever they are, not the fact that they are growing so rapidly, now serving MIA and CLT, with direct flights, but they are expanding faster than they can keep up, having to constantly postpone and reroute flights and planes. If you fly Insel you have a GREAT chance of NOT departing on time, let alone the same day, and NEVER EVER COUNT on Insel to make ANY connection with any other carrier. This is NOT my first time on Insel, and delays are chronic with them, with no explanation. I seriously do not think that it is a conspiracy against me, or that I am unlucky enough to book just the exact flights that will be cancelled EVERY time. Their cancelled flights are not the only problem. Just wait until you fly them and experience the ineptitude of their unprofessional ground staff. However, on the other hand, this is good for those people in our society that are unqualified to get a job anywhere else , Insel will provide employment for them, saving the taxpayers unemployment benefits. The following quote has been pasted directly from their notification email sent to me following an email request. The case number has been changed to protect the innocent : ´´ Your request for assistance has been received. Case # SC0000 - "Re: reservation" has been created for you. A member of our customer relations team will respond to your case within 10 business days. ´´
If you think 10 biz days is a reasonable amount of time to answer a question, perhaps you should apply to work for InselAir. If you would like you may get your own response by writing to: customerrelations@fly-inselair.com.
Do you still want to fly with them ?
If you book with them to save money, guess what it will cost you in collateral and extra expenses? Remember, wherever Insel flies , others do to. I just learned my lesson. Hoping you will benefit by my mistake and loss. Bon Voyage.
"Customer Service? How About Customer Dis-service!"
Things started off very poor as we checked-in in Aruba and found out there is a $20/person fee to get the boarding card, and it is CASH ONLY. First - let the customer know this ahead of time. Second, why cash only? If you don't have the cash (luckily we did), you head to the back of the line after running across the terminal to the ATM... The attendant then gave us two boarding passes - both had my wife's name on them rather than one of them with mine - hmmmm... The flight from AUA to CUR was not a problem. Upon landing in CUR, we needed to pay another fee, a $2 per person transfer fee, again something not mentioned by Insel air. Again, CASH ONLY. Then, we find out our flight was canceled - but here is the kicker... it was canceled because there were too few people on the flight, not because of weather or engine issues or something that actually makes sense, but because they wouldn't have profited as handsomely. So, instead they decided to combine our flight into the next available one (4 HOURS LATER!). Go figure. Upon complaining - extremely nicely - I was told to wait for the manager. Waited 30 minutes. I then chased down the person who asked me to wait, and you could see the look in her eyes (oh, thought I lost him). I said "where is the manager?" She pointed to her, and I told the manager the story. The manager promised a voucher. I said I would sit down, and just let me know when I can pick it up. After 1 HOUR of waiting (while the Insel employees chatted away and ate cupcakes), they proceeded to walk away as a group to head to lunch!!!!!!!!!! What the h_ll is that?
Be very very careful when booking with Insel. Know you will be paying $22 per person more than you thought, and know that they like to pool flights together to save money. You were warned.
